This particular model is the best rated of all of the Draper cordless drill/drivers. At a price of just £60, this model gets a super average rating of 5 out of 5 stars, based on the buyer reviews.

Please note that Draper appear to no longer make this model. You can click here to see which Draper drills are available.

This is one of the cheaper drill/drivers that you will find in the UK market. It has a forward and reverse function, variable speed and also a choice of 16 torque positions and that makes it a good general purpose drill/driver for many uses around the home.

It also comes with an electric brake and has a very used LED light, which will help you to work in poorly lit areas.

Draper - The Company and Brand

Draper were originally known as B. Draper & Son and these days of course as Draper. They are based in Hampshire in England. It was built as a family owned company and to this day it remains that way, which is unusual for a company of this size.

They make many ranges of tools, and that of course includes power tools. Their cordless drill/drivers sit within this range.

They also have gardening tools, mechanic's tools, hand tools, engineering tools and a wide range of accessories. Below you will find an introductory video if you would like to find out more about the Draper company and the tools that they make.

Who Would Buy the Draper 20495?

This drill will mainly be bought by anyone who wants to have a general purpose drill/driver for the light to medium style of jobs that need doing around the home.

Those who buy this one certainly like it a lot and they rate it the highest of all the Draper cordless/drill drivers that are currently available in the UK market.

The ideal owners of this drill are those who enjoy their DIY or simply want to be able to do all the general tasks that are required in and around the house. As we all know there is always something that needs to be done around the home.

That could be anything from fitting a shelf, to fixing a lock or simply attaching a mirror or picture to the wall. This drill/driver will handle all of those jobs with ease.

If you are looking for assurance about buying this product then is that it is their best rated cordless drill.  That is according to the buyer reviews left by people who have actually bought and used this product. That should give you some assurance that this is a good product.

For sure you can buy more expensive drills with more features. In terms of value for money though, this one is very well made, so you will own a nice piece of very good quality kit.

Features Worth A Mention

This is a good purchase in terms of value for money. This is not a fancy drill packed full of features but it has enough to make sure you can do almost all of the drilling or driving jobs around the home.

This particular Draper model has an LED light and that is very useful when working in dark or poorly lit areas. It really does make life a great deal easier. I think this also helps if your eyesight is not the best as it makes things a great deal easier to see. (perhaps that is my age though)

Main Review of the Draper 20495 Model

If you are going to spend £60 of your hard earned cash on this particular drill/driver from the Draper brand, then the really big questions, is it good value for money?

The short and simple answer is yes. In our opinion there are of course much better choices out there, but they will cost a lot more money.

This one will get most of the jobs done around the home. You should be aware though that this one does use the older style Ni-CD batteries.

They do take longer to charge fully and over time they will not last as long as the new and improved Li-Ion batteries. If you are only going to be using this product a couple of time a month, then it will last you for a long time.

If you are going to be a regular user of a drill/driver then do not buy this one. Buy a drill/driver that used Li-Ion batteries and you will have it for years.

Many of the other brands like Black & Decker and Bosch use the newer style batteries and are at similar price points to this one.

Other Features of the 20495 Model

The LED light just makes such a difference. If you have ever worked in an area with not much light, then having this LED light just lights up those dark areas and makes drilling a whole lot easier.

This model does have an excellent safety feature with an electric brake. When you have finished drilling or driving the chuck can often keep spinning when you are finished. The electric brake slows this down very quickly so you will not get snagged with a spinning drill bit or driver.

Here at this website we are not huge fans of Draper. In truth that does not matter one jot as there are many buyers who like and use this brand a lot. We have based our reviews on what buyers actually say rather than on our opinions.

Although there are not a lot of reviews on this 20495 model, those who have bought it have all given it a 5 star rating. So, we are not going to argue with that.

What Buyers Liked About the 20495 Ion Drill/Driver

  • Good value for money
  • Small compact drill with a lot of power - allows you to work in confined spaces and into corners
  • Great for all types of uses including the hammer function

What Buyers Did Not Like About the 18V Lithium Cordless Drill/Driver

  • Batteries are slow to charge
  • Uses the older style of batteries

Pros & Cons Summary

  • Best Rated of all the Draper cordless drills
  • Good value for money
  • A nice range of features

Value for Money

My Conclusion & Recommendation

This is their best in range and buyers support this by giving it the highest rated in the entire Draper range. If you need a good quality drill/driver for all purpose use around the home and garden, then this is about as good as it gets from a Draper tool.

  1. NiCad batteries have a longer shelf life than Lion batteries. Lithium batteries degrade after a couple of years, you see the same thing with lithium batteries in laptops, phones, cameras, whereas the useable capacity of a NiCad battery can go on for many years. My 1992 Proline drill was useable for a good fifteen years or more. It is not a matter of number of charge cycles, its simply time; they have a short shelf life despite their obvious other benefits. I would not recommend Lion to part time diy-ers unless they see the purchase as being disposable in about 3/4 years time.
