Who Would Buy the Bosch PSB 1800 LI-2?

This would be bought by anyone who needs a powerful enough drill to be able to do the normal tasks around the home, but also needs to do the more demanding jobs in the home and garden.

You could use this one for just about any type of heavy drilling. It could also be used by someone for example who is building a deck and needs to drive in a lot of decking screws. It is a drill/driver that a professional would use, so it is built and designed to a very high standard.

As it is a hammer drill, it can easily get through brick and most types of masonry. This one has been designed to create a lot of power and torque, so it is really very good at the tougher jobs.

The most reassuring thing about buying this product is that it is their best rated cordless drill and that is according to the reviews left by people who have actually bought and used this product. That should give you some assurance that this is a top notch product.

Main Review of the Bosch PSB 1800 LI-2 Hammer Drill

As we have mentioned this is their highest rated product and for very good reasons. Not only is the battery very powerful, but it makes drilling and screwdriving tasks something that is easy to do.

In our opinion there is nothing more frustrating than having a tool that can get the job done that you need it to. This one can handle almost any of these tasks with considerable ease.

Depending on the job you are doing, there are a number of useful settings. There is a drill setting and also a hammer drill setting.

Battery Power

This is classed as an 18 Volt cordless hammer drill and you get two 1.5 Ah batteries along with the charger. It is always great to have two batteries as you can be using one and charging the other one. Even better, it only takes 1 hour to fully charge the battery, as you also get the fast charger.

This drill uses the much better Lithium-Ion batteries and that instantly makes it a superior drill when compared to one that used the older Ni-CD type.

When you have two of these Li-Ion batteries along with a charger that can deliver a full charge in an hour, then you need never worry about your drill running out of power.

This particular Bosch model also uses what they call their "Syneon Chip" technology. This is a technology that Bosch not include in all of their better products.

It pulls together information from the battery, the motor and the gears within the tool and figures out how to get the most power and efficiency for your drilling task. It is actually quite clever.

Clutch Positions & Torque

This Bosch model has 20 pre-selectable torques. Many buyers get confused about exactly what these are used for. When you drill through different materials you should use different speeds for the best results. This is achieved by picking the right torque.

For example in soft woods you would use a lower torque as you don't want to over drive screws.

This drill also has a 2 speed gearbox which is very useful.

There are two adjustment rings; the inner ring allows you to select between screw driving, drilling and the hammer action. The outer ring allows you to pick the appropriate torque setting for screw-driving.

There is also a slide switch above the handle, where you can pick either of the two gears. These gears are used for either drilling speed or the slower gear for all screwdriving tasks.

The small switch above the trigger allows you to pick between forwards and reverse and is useful for also locking the keyless chuck. Finally the trigger itself allows you to also control the speed.

Keyless Chuck

Just like the LED, a keyless chuck is now the norm for these types of drills. A keyless chuck is of course a drill where the chuck is tightened by hand and holds the bits securely. They are just much faster and you never have to worry about losing a chuck key again.

This cordless hammer drill has a 10 mm shank and a single-sleeve drill chuck

We don't recommend many products unless we have tried and tested them. We have used this one many times and we just found it to be excellent. As a professional we do own Dewalt drills and use those everyday. We also own this Bosch model and if we are doing any type of extended work, then this is the one that we reach for.
